Pretty disappointing if not surprising. The Mac is clearly taking a back seat to the iPhone right now and will be for some time. It also seems unlikely that we'll see updates for iWork and iLife before October as well.
While it's their call as far as quality of their products and the iPhone and such, I think this may be a marketing mistake.
I think that Windows Vista has had just enough time on the market for many people to realize that it sucks (I have uber-nerd backing on this one now, as the tech department at work (very Windows-biased usually) has officially said that Vista sucks).
If Apple were to move in right now and present Mac as the heroic hero and amazing alternative to the dissapointing Vista, we could see a serious shift in the market. With the delay, I fear that Microsoft will be able to continue their "We're your only option so deal with it" marketing tactic for long enough to get everyone to "upgrade" to the new system, leaving Mac perpetualy in the back seat of public opinion, even after the release of their new OS.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying Tiger doesn't already kick the poop out of Vista, I'm talking about public opinion and the negative hype that has been built up about Macs to protect Windows software and PC hardware. The new release could be an opportunity to build some hype for Mac, but by October it may be too late to take advantage of the Vista mistake.
